Dark Since Ever is a percussion module.

It's sounds can be self triggered and / or drone on their own, but to get the most out of this module you will want to pair it with an analog gate source - analog sequencers like beatstep pro, sq64, or midi sequencers with a midi to gate converter, or synths that can output gates or triggers such as 23 psychoacoustic or antirave etc...

The 6 voices of Dark Since Ever consist of three pairs.

-2 twin t drum voices. 1 of these is for bass sounds. The other features a clockable switched capacitor system similar to the switched capacitor system of 23 psychoacoustic's twin t filters.

Same filter topology as 23 Psychoacoustic, but very different design - op amp based and running off the internally boosted 24 volt power supply (+-12v). The sound is smoother, cleaner when compared to 23 psychoacoustic. Decay and pitch are still somewhat interactive as is the case with all twin t filters but less so when compared to 23. Also more easily dialed in. There is voltage control over pitch and knobs to control pitch, decay, and volume.

- 2 lo-fi samplers. These samplers use an obsolete answering machine voice recorder chip. The sound quality is bad, like an old vhs. And there is a brief pause when looped. But this is part of the charm. It's surprising how fun it is to use this primitive recorder, and reminds to the casio samplers of the 80's. Immediacy and imperfection are operative qualities here.

Sampled sounds can have their pitch manipulated either manually with the knobs or via CV control voltage. The samplers themselves can also be used as a cv source.

There are 2 built in microphones for sourcing sounds. - contact (senses vibrations inside and close to the instrument) and - electret condenser (hears sounds in the environment). It is also possible to connect an AUX source via 3,5mm jack for sampling off the internet, mp3 players, etc.

The sample sources except for the condenser mic, can also be monitored in the main mix.

Each sample player has a dedicated low pass gate. The sample can be set to either loop or gate. When set to loop incoming gates will open the low pass gate while the sample loops underneath. When set to gate the sample triggers from the beginning everytime a gate is received for the duration that the gate is held down.

-2 white noise generators. 1 noise is voiced towards higher frequencies for hi hat sounds. The other noise is mid range for snare / clap type of sounds. There are knobs for texture and decay which are interactive. There is also CV control voltage input for the gates, so it is possible to change the envelope shapes for amplitude.

-Compact design - measures 17cm x 17,7cm x 1,8cm (without knobs) and weighs approx 500 grams
